A Weekend Trip
My grandmother died on Wednesday of last week, so this weekend was a busy weekend spent mostly driving to get to and from the funeral. It was a doozy of a weekend. Carolyn was not an easy traveler and funerals are emotional! We got a flat tire, and Carolyn and I both came home with colds to boot!
Of course, there are always some pleasant moments in between the chaos! Here are some pictures...
Zach was already signed up to volunteer at the homeless shelter for breakfast Saturday. So, I finished up packing and Carolyn entertained herself. She lined up all her bears on the couch and then stuck stickers all over her jammies. (Both of these are daily events at our house!)
Carolyn played with a red pen on the drive down and ended up with red ink on her face. Oops. Thank goodness for baby wipes!!
Carolyn wore a beautiful hand-me-down dress that my cousin brought for her this weekend! Interestingly, she hates to wear dresses to church, but LOVES to wear very fancy dresses.

A Quilt for Carolyn
Finally some pictures!!
I've been working on Carolyn's quilt since this summer. It had to be put aside for a long time due to different series of interruptions, but I finally have a front and back put together! I still need to do all the quilting and bind the edges, so it's far from done, but so exciting to be at a point where it looks how it will look!
The purple-blue background fabric matches the curtains that my mom and I made for her. I have some extra fabric that I'm using to make matching pillows to complete her room.
After the quilt is finished we'll starting thinking about moving the munchkin to a toddler bed!

Happy Birthday Zach!
Yesterday we celebrated Zach's birthday! Carolyn was very excited about it, and we all had a lot of fun. Carolyn and I made a snowman cake and wrapped 2 new shirts and a picture (to have on his desk at work) for Daddy!
Carolyn very carefully put all the little marshmallows on the cake to make the snow. She was very into the cake and just could.not.wait. for Daddy to get home to eat cake!!

Carolyn was also very excited about Daddy's presents. If you look carefully at this picture, you can see brown lines on the front of the card envelope. That is where Carolyn very carefully and meticulously wrote "Daddy." :)

I haven't been so great at updating this lately! I've been working on sewing Carolyn's quilt (for her toddler bed) and revamping my mess of a recipe organization system. I'll try to get some quilt pics up soon!

I Ready Go Mama....
Carolyn was busy playing in the living room while I was cleaning up lunch in the kitchen. She called out to me "I ready go mama" and I came in the living room to find this...

She was all set to go and asked if we could go shopping. We did go to the store - dressed in clothes - after her rest that afternoon!

Indoor Water Park Fun!!
Friday night we got to go to an indoor water park that one of the ladies in the moms' group is a member of. We all had so much fun! It was a great place to go on a winter day when it's hard to do anything too active with Carolyn. I'm not sure how we didn't know about it after living here 2 years now ! They offer a yearly membership, but we'll have to look into seeing if it's possible to buy day passes.
Carolyn was slow to warm up to the park because it was very loud and water shot and dumped out all over the place with no warnings! There was no way to stay dry!! Once she got used to it, she had a great time! She slept well last night - 8:53 AM and still not a peep from her room!!!
The water park! It had a little kids area with a smaller slide and play equipment, then a larger blue slide, a lazy river and a sprinkler area.
Carolyn loved the lazy river. It had a suprisingly fast current that propelled you and the way the kids played and chased each other around the circle, it was more of a crazy river than a lazy river!!
Once Carolyn went down the slide, she wanted to go again and again and again!

Carolyn's First Snowman
New Year's Eve we woke up to almost 10 inches of snow! We've really gotten a lot of snow already this winter! Mama isn't crazy about it, but Carolyn LOVES the snow and especially snowmen. So, she and Dad set out to build her first snowman! She was quite pleased with the whole process and I think it's adorable to look out our window and see him.
